If a bodybuilder stops lifting weights, would he still be able to retain muscle mass?

I mean it can be inflated but will they still have bigger arms than they used to have prior when they even started to lift weights.. I would think that the stress they put their body through + diet which includes protein would be a long term thing?

nope. if a body builder stopped lifting weights they’ll eventually lose their strength, it’s natural with age, and their arms and such will get saggy/droopy.

nope, once stopped weight lifting, all the muscle will turn into fat. My advice would be to slowly stop the weight lifting and switch to carido and reduce the protein intake, you will have a toned body, that you can easily maintain.

Okay, muscle won’t turn to fat despite what people always seem to think. Protein is one type of molecule, fat is another – they can’t morph from one in to another.

If a bodybuilder stops training he will retain muscle mass for a period, but muscle tone will diminish rapidly. Strength begins to fade within 2-3 weeks.

Your body will only tolerate as much muscle as is required to perform its daily workload.

If your daily workload includes hauling huge weights around, then it will accept the extra muscle required to do that.

If your daily workload includes sitting at a desk/in front of the TV then it won’t allow all the extra muscle as its burning off valuable energy which can be used as fuel. Thus the body will begin cannabilising the muscle in an effort to reduce energy output and prevent possible starvation.

The good news is that your muscles do retain a memory of their previous size – if you go back to training / eating correctly – it won’t take anywhere near as long to rebuild your size strength.
