Is weight lifting an example of aerobic or anaerobic exercise?

Weight lifting would be that in which a person lifts barbells or works on a weight machine. Let’s say the individual would be doing a minimum of three sets of twenty repititions at each station working arms (upper body) and legs (lower body).

Not aerobic. Aerobic exercise is something like running, weight lifting while moving the rest of your body… continuous full body movement that makes you breathe hard. While you are getting some aerobic exercise from lifting, it’s not enough to be put in that category. Take an aerobics class and you’ll see what I mean.

    Anaerobic.

Weight lifting can be both anaerobic or aerobic depending on the length and intensity of the session. In your question the answer would aerobic if the duration of the workout exceeded 20 minutes and was constant working from station to station. If, however, you did fewer repetitions i.e 8 with 80% max load and only worked say 3 body parts with timed rests in between then these would become anaerobic bursts. I hope this helps you.

it could be both but its most anaerobic. but if you work out without stopping it could be aerobic too.
