On average, without training, how many push ups can a person do?

What is the average for females?

For males?

This is considering that the person don’t work out and is NOT a bodybuilder/trainer, etc.

  1. The Guru says:

Probably no more than ten for guys or girls.

I start off each of my workouts with as many pushups as I can do, which is over 30.

  2. Pat says:

From what a noticed most women can only do a couple who don’t workout, like 5 or less and average man probably between 10 and 20.

  3. Matthew A says:

For females, most claim an absolute minimum (1-10). As for guys, it depends on their percentage of body fat. Without any physical training, the range I have seen falls in between zero and thirty. If someone is fit (from sports, not lifting weights) and has little fat, 30 seems to be towards the limit. (for males)

Are you kidding? Even with exercising and being a dancer and gymnast I have NEVER been able to do a single full push up.

  5. whatever says:

My female friends that might workout on occasion but never do push-ups can hardly do 3. Most girls can’t do 8 without some building up to it.

I’d say 3 is the average for girls that never do push-ups but are in reasonable shape.

My brother and a guy friend of mine, both don’t workout could get up to 20 just and my 17 year old brother could only do 10, so I’d average that out to 17 for guys.

    girls – 3
    guys – 17
