Weight gainer power to add calories during chemo?

My mom has to get lots of extra calories per the oconolgist, but she is a light eater like me. I was wondering what everyone thought about this GNC Weight Gainger 1850. You need about 3 cups of the powder and mix it but you get 1850 calories from that and vitamins and minerals. The downside is you get 130g of sugar in it. But any ideas or thoughts on this? It looks like a quick way for her to get the calories since she doesn’t eat a lot.

Wow that is a lot of sugar! and 130g would be like 520 cal of sugar- and cancer thrives on sugar- if you could find a formula or similar ingredients wo the sugar- and not artificial sweeteners and add a little olive oil and fish oil, and msm- that has sulfur in it that decreases inflammation- that might be helpful- check out nutrition express- they have a soy base and a whey base protein- that should help and not have that much sugar- Sorry to hear of her illness- my mom and dad had it too-D

Please check with her Oncologist before you give her anything like this. It may be harmful for several reasons. She is lucky to have you: My prayers to both of you.

Yes, be sure to check with her onco before trying this! One more thing. . . . taste changes dramatically when doing chemo and she may not like the taste. She may not like the foods she always did, but when she finds something that she does like let her eat it as much as she wants. My husband went through 3 months of pork roast 4 times a week for me! Also, remember to encourage her to drink liquids!!

No I would not use anything not approved by the doctor for a lot of those products minimize the effects of the chemo. . . . . .
