Why birds on a pelleted diet can have mineral blocks but NOT mineral or vitamin supplements?

I understand that birds on a healthy diet can have a mineral block as well as a cuttlebone, but they should never have added mineral vitamin supplements because that is too much and they can get a toxic overdose from that. Why is this exactly? Is it just because supplements have way too much vitamins/minerals than a mineral block does?

Because pelleted diets have plenty of vitamins and minerals in them. Adding MORE vitamins and minerals throws their diet out of balance. A cuttle bone to nibble or rub his beak on is fine.
